You probably already heard the news… Thousand Hills is doing another revolutionary thing! We’ll be holding three membership seminars until the end of the year and encouraging everyone who would like to be a member of our church as well as our current members to attend one of them. The seminar is called “Connect – Membership Explained” and the first one will be held on Sunday, June 13 after the service in Hilversum at 12:45.
Why are we doing this?
The last few months we have been working very hard to refine our vision and bring the way how we define membership in line with the church’s vision and values. In the past everyone who gave a financial donation to the church that was recorded in our books was put on the membership roll. That included people who come once in a while to special events and people who had attended Thousand Hills in the past.
Church is more than just a place where you can be inspired on Sundays and receive spiritual input. When you look at what the Bible says about the church, one important image is that of a body. Every part of the body has its role to play. That means that as members of a church we not only enjoy all the good things that the church has to offer, but we also give. We invest our time, treasure and talents to help make the local church we are part of a place that overflows with God’s love and life, for ourselves, our families and the community around us.
So a major change in how we define membership will be that in the future everyone who wants to be a member of Thousand Hills has to attend a short, two-hour membership seminar.
How will this seminar help you?
This membership seminar will allow you:
- to better understand the vision and values of the church;
- to more effectively connect with the church family so that it will truly become your church home;
- to find your place of service in Thousand Hills.
The seminar will last only two hours and will be held after a Sunday celebration. Our current members are also expected to attend this seminar before the end of the year if they would like to see their membership continued in 2011. Please know that if you don’t attend, you will be just as welcome to the church. We will remain as open as we have always been! We just want you to have a chance to reap all the benefits of church membership.
When will you have a chance to attend “Connect”?
This year, the “Connect – membership explained” seminar will be held on 13 June and repeated on 12 September and 28 November. The seminar will run from 12.45-14.45, so please bring your own lunch.
